Virtual Organs use Personal Computers and software for tone generation, rather than dedicated hardware tone generators. Their suppliers are very small companies or hobbyists who purchase consoles from one source, keyboards, amplifiers, power supplies, etc. from others, and PCs and software from still others.
Virtual Organ suppliers have included, Martin, VPO, Phoenix Organs, Noorlander, among others, some of which are no longer in business. The photographs below were taken of various virtual organs.
We had a church in the area that spent over $70,000 on “custom” Hauptwerk based organ. It lasted less than a year before failing completely. Sadly, they can’t get their money back since the company is no longer in business, and they don’t have any money left to get another one. They could’ve gotten a sizable and much better Allen for that price and it would’ve lasted them a LOT longer than one year!
